About the Role

Rochdale Training is looking for a supportive, enthusiastic and committed Study Programme Teaching Assistant to join our friendly team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to make a positive difference to their learning, confidence and progression.

Working alongside our Study Programme tutors, you will provide day-to-day classroom and pastoral support to learners. You will help learners overcome barriers, develop positive behaviours and remain engaged with their programme, while building effective relationships with learners, colleagues, parents/carers and placement providers.

Working Hours

The role is 17 hours per week with the following working pattern:

  • Monday and Wednesday: 9:15am – 3:15pm, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break
  • Tuesday and Thursday: 9:15am – 12:45pm

Key Responsibilities

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support tutors with the day-to-day management of learners in the classroom.
  • Provide pastoral support and appropriate learning strategies to help learners progress.
  • Follow up non-attendance promptly and undertake welfare checks where required.
  • Identify learners requiring additional support and help implement appropriate interventions.
  • Follow learners' SEN plans where required.
  • Support the safeguarding and welfare of learners.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and implement agreed behaviour management strategies.
  • Support tutors with the planning, delivery and evaluation of learning activities.
  • Help learners take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour.
  • Support with marking learner work and reviewing learner progress.
  • Assist tutors with administrative tasks where necessary.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, placement providers and other external stakeholders when required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date learner records while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Promote Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, British Values, Online Safety, Mental Health and Wellbeing.

About You

We are looking for someone who is approachable, organised and able to build positive relationships with young people.

Essential

  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above.
  • Good communication skills at all levels.
  • Experience of working with young people/adults, including individuals with SEN.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding, Prevent and the welfare of learners.
  • The ability to provide effective pastoral support and help maintain learner motivation.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • The ability to respond appropriately and promptly to learner welfare or safeguarding concerns.

Desirable

  • Assessor qualification or equivalent, or willingness to work towards one.
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent.
  • Relevant occupational competence.
  • Knowledge or experience of teaching, learning and assessment processes.
  • Knowledge of learning difficulties and appropriate support strategies.
