Rochdale Training (in conjunction with Chrysalis Consultancy) are pleased to offer our new Moving & Handling People training, starting this January

 

Course Purpose:

This course is suitable for anyone working within the Health and Social care sectors, especially for senior staff wishing to train their In– House Teams.

Incorporated into the course – delegates will also complete the following accredited certificate : Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Moving People Safely (RQF) – This is an Ofqual regulated and nationally recognised qualification.

Our trainer is a Member of National Back Exchange and Yorkshire Back Exchange, Registered Nurse, Trainer and Assessor with over 25 years’ experience working within the health and social care sector

This comprehensive 4-day course will give delegates the skills and knowledge and confidence to deliver this training within their teams and when assessing competency to ensure high, safe standards are being maintained.

Entry Requirements There are no specific entry requirements; however delegates should have a minimum of level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

 

Course Cost : £495 per delegate – All 4 Days must be attended

Course Structure:

Day 1

Legal Responsibilities and Duties under Health and Safety legislation relating to manual handling in the workplace.

Introduction to the principles and practice of carrying out Risk Assessment & Balanced Decision Making

Dynamic / Personal-on-the-spot risk assessment processes.

Essentials to include in documentation

Back Care – Spine Structure and Function / Risk Factors for Injury

Postures to Avoid and Adopt

Principals of Safer Handling

 

Day 2

Functional biomechanics, forces relating to postures and work-related tasks.

Maintaining Musculo-skeletal health and using the body efficiently.

Controversial Handling Techniques – Video & Discussion.

Strategies to manage staff who undertake poor techniques.

 

Day 3

Hoists and slings

Types and selection criteria

What can go wrong + procedures for safe use (HSE Guidelines),

What to teach staff prior to hoist transfers.

 

Day 4

Learning Styles and Teaching Methods

Demonstration skills

Guidelines from Professional bodies

Planning and Developing Effective Session Plans

 

Accredited Qualification

Assessment of Delegates will be completed via:

· Practical demonstration – 15 minute Micro Teach.

· Observation of delegates’ skills throughout the first 3 days.

· Written assignment in the form of a lesson plan.

· Question and answers throughout the course.

-Qualsafe Assessment of Practical and Knowlegde

 

All delegates will be given course material and resources which can be adapted to the workplace setting to enable efficient and effective delivery to their staff teams. Ongoing support is also available via email and phone.
