Lamar has dedicated the last year and a half to supporting young people at Meadows Care, helping them build life skills, regulate their emotions, and achieve their goals. But for him, this role is more than just a job—it’s a way to give back the kindness and support he once received.

Meadows Care looks after children and young people who cannot remain in their family homes and need specialised, therapeutic care. The care they provide is delivered in partnership with their young people, local authorities and the community.

Lee Matthews, Operations Director at Meadow Care said “We know that staff are our best asset and we value their hard work, dedication to the young people and commitment to the company”. Due to this Meadows Care invest heavily in their staff and offer them multiple opportunities to complete further studies with their chosen training provider, Rochdale Training.

As a teenager, Lamar faced difficult times. However, he was fortunate to meet individuals who believed in him, supported him, and never judged him despite his struggles. From the ages of 16 to 20, these mentors helped him navigate life’s challenges, and their guidance left a lasting impact. Now, he’s determined to do the same for others.

“Working with new groups motivates me every time I go to my shifts,” Lamar shares. “I know I’m helping the younger generation, and the opportunity someone gave to me, I’m now giving back to them.”

His passion for youth work has driven him to aim higher. Wanting to expand his impact, Lamar has just recently completed his Level 3 qualification to progress into social work. He credits Meadows Care and Rochdale Training for helping him take these next steps in his career, allowing him to grow and unlock new opportunities.

“I can’t thank Rochdale Training enough—they’ve helped me pursue my dreams. And a special shout-out to my tutor, Nikki, for her fantastic support!”

Tutor at Rochdale Training, Nikki Isaac said “Lamar’s story is an inspiring example of how the right support can change lives—and how one person’s kindness can create a ripple effect for generations to come.”
