We are looking to recruit a Functional Skills Tutor (including SENCo).
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
To deliver Functional Skills English and maths up to and including level 2 to ASF and study programme learners. To deliver maths up to and including level 2 to apprentices.
As a SEN Coordinator (SENCo) in Further Education ensure learners with special educational needs receive the support required to access and succeed in their educational journey. This involves identifying individual needs, developing tailored support plans, and collaborating with staff and external agencies to deliver inclusive and effective learning environments. The SENCo plays a vital role in advocating for learners, promoting equality, and ensuring compliance with relevant legal and educational frameworks.
KEY TASKS
To initially assess and diagnose Functional Skills requirements of individual learners via Century
To complete all compliance documentation in timely manner
To deliver Functional Skills following an individualised learner SOW tailored to the diagnostic outcome
To deliver outside normal working hours, when required
To deliver in the classroom and on the employer premises, as required
To attend at least two Standardisation meetings per academic year
To be responsible for a caseload of functional skills learners from IAG through to completion
Co-ordinate learner exams in line with Company Procedure
To co-operate and liaise with the EQA and IQA and other relevant bodies e.g. ESFA and Ofsted, as required
Ensure CPD is updated and maintained
To work with the Quality Department to continuously develop the delivery of Functional Skills for both the standalone and apprenticeship provision
To keep documents up to date and maintain confidentiality
To complete Awarding Body documentation, registration and certification when required
To complete registers and to report absences
To encourage and motivate the learners and to build confidence in the subject area
To promote Equality and Diversity
To be committed to the safeguarding/prevent and welfare of all learners
To share Functional Skills resources with training staff
To attend staff training
Use the e-portfolio system, where appropriate, and contribute to Rochdale Training’s VLE
To promote and encourage increase usage of Century by staff and learners.
SENCo
Discuss referrals with tutors and learners.
Develop systems for tracking learner progress and reviewing their needs
Provide individualised support ensuring the learner needs are met
Collaborate with tutors and coordinates external support providers to implement tailored support plans, addressing the learners specific learning requirements
Regularly review and document learners progress, ensuring RT is compliant using in-house provision or Clear Links with monthly funding claims
Maintain open and clear communication channels with tutors, parents/guardians, SEN Lead and other providers involved in the learner’s care and education
Liaise with external agencies (e.g. educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, Clear Links) for additional assessments when needed
Ensure that differentiation in teaching practices is in place
Offer ongoing guidance on inclusive teaching strategies
Act as the key point of contact for learners, parents/guardians and external agencies regarding SEN provision
Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns related to SEN learners when necessary
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential:

Teaching Qualification – PGCE, CertEd or Teaching Degree

English and maths Qualifications, equivalent to Level 2

Relevant qualifications in education or special needs support, or a willingness to achieve within three years

Experience of delivering Functional Skills up to and including Level 2

Knowledge and Experience of working with Apprentices and adult learners

Working with hard-to-reach groups

Communication skills at all levels

Understanding of strategies for managing challenging behaviour and promoting positive reinforcement

Previous experience in a similar role, preferably within an educational setting

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Be knowledgeable about, or interested in, working with learners who have SEN
