Summary
BEP Surface Technologies is looking for an enthusiastic Engineering Operative Apprentice to join its specialist engineering team in Radcliffe. You will gain practical experience within a busy metal finishing and surface engineering environment, learning how components are prepared, processed, finished and inspected while working safely and to high quality standards.
Annual wage
£8.00 per hour - current National Minimum Wage apprentice rate.

Hours
Monday to Thursday: 8:00am - 4:00pm
Friday: 8:00am - 1:00pm
37 hours across the published business hours. Break arrangements to be confirmed by the employer.
Duration
Typically 12 months, plus the end-point assessment period.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
As an Engineering Operative Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced engineers and develop practical skills across BEP's surface engineering operations. Duties will include:
• Supporting the preparation of engineering components before processing and finishing.
• Assisting with metal finishing and surface treatment activities under supervision.
• Learning about processes used within BEP, including electroplating, surface finishing and related engineering operations.
• Supporting the handling and movement of components safely within the workshop.
• Using appropriate hand tools, equipment and engineering measuring equipment.
• Carrying out basic measurements and quality checks to ensure work meets required specifications.
• Reading and following job instructions, engineering information and operating procedures.
• Maintaining clean, safe and organised work areas.
• Following health, safety, environmental and quality procedures at all times.
• Identifying and reporting faults, hazards or problems to the appropriate team member.
• Working as part of the engineering team to meet production and customer requirements.
Full training and supervision will be provided, with responsibilities increasing as your skills, knowledge and confidence develop.

Your training plan
The successful candidate will complete the Engineering Operative Level 2 apprenticeship, following the Materials, Processing or Finishing pathway. Training will combine practical workplace development at BEP Surface Technologies with apprenticeship training delivered by Rochdale Training. The apprentice will work towards the mandatory Level 2 engineering operations qualifications required by the standard and develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to work safely and effectively in an engineering environment.
