Are you looking to get into a career with the NHS? This course will give you the knowledge and understanding of key principles and values required to work in a GP Surgery.

This course is designed for you to gain the knowledge and qualifications to become part of a customer service/administration team within the NHS, offering excellent customer service to patients. You will receive a guaranteed interview with the primary care academy.

If you are successful at the interview you will be based on Reception completing a selection of tasks that assist with the daily running of the business operations including answering the telephones and liaising with the wider practice team. You will be trained in all areas including proactive data quality support to ensure accurate completion of records held at the surgery, signposting patients to appropriate services outside of the GP surgery and working as part of a busy, well-established team.

Entry Requirements:

  • Candidates must be 19+
  • Candidates must live in Rochdale, Oldham, Bury or Tameside
  • You must be committed for the full duration of the course
  • Not already enrolled on any other funded course
  • Photo identification required

Duties to Include Once Employed:

  • Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system
  • Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring the caller is safely directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
  • Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Filing and retrieving paperwork
  • Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers
  • Clearing and re-stocking of consulting rooms as required
  • Ordering, re-ordering and monitoring of stationery and other supplies
  • Provision of refreshments for staff and visitors as required
  • Keeping the reception area, noticeboards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter

The Training: 

You will achieve a fully accredited level 2 Customer Service qualification.

This qualification will enable learners to develop a basic knowledge of the customer service sector and is aimed at those learners who wish to explore roles in this field.

Important Information / Dates:

  • Start Date: Monday 5th February (9:30 am to 2:00 pm), (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for 6 weeks)
