Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Principal Duties:
- Carry out Administrations duties as directed which might include letters, invites and general correspondence and reports.
- Attend meetings with the Mayors officer as requested and take notes.
- Assist as directed with the catering and hospitality requirement of Mayor and any civic functions.
- Assist with the Mayoral engagements.
- Assist to host Mayoral and Civic events.
- Some housekeeping of the mayors parlour as directed
- To take and make phone calls as directed and pass on messages
- To work flexible hours which may include evening and weekend Mayoral events, such as Mayor Making Ceremonies, Remembrance Parades, Civic Sunday’s etc.
- Complete all Apprenticeship qualifications, including Maths and English to Grade C standard if not already held.
- Will be required to represent Rochdale in a positive light when hosting events which may have foreign dignitaries / members of the armed forces / local councillors / MP’s
Secondary Duties:
- To participate in training events as required.
- To work as part of the team in the development of the civic programme.
- Participate as required with the mayors Charity.
- Development of Knowledge of the buildings history/architecture to offer a guided tour to visitors if required.
- Act as an ambassador for the Mayoral office and Rochdale Borough Council.

Apprentice rate: Apprentices who undertake Level 3 apprenticeships are paid a salary of 14,566.15 for 12 months and equivalent to Grade 1 SCP 2 currently £22,656 for the remaining months of the contract (18-month contract). Interview Date: 30th of June. Induction date - Monday 8th September 2025. Should you apply for 2 vacancies (maximum), we strongly encourage you to attend both interviews and declare this.
