Other requirements
Compressed air equipment is generally located at floor level, servicing will involve working in a bent over position or on one’s knees. Some equipment may be found in other locations such as mezzanine floors, roofs, landfill sites, quarries. In such cases access can be difficult. Service materials can range from a 5 litre can of oil at 3 kg to 160 litres of oil at 266 kg. These materials may have to be carried manually (oil is in 20 litre containers 12 kg) from the vehicle over rough ground for some distance. Equally the waste service products would be carried back to the vehicle. Care should be taken with underfoot conditions as the majority of compressor rooms will have floors where oil may have spilt or leaked. Compressed air equipment is generally sited using the appropriate lifting equipment i.e. pallet truck, block and tackle. Use of this equipment will still require physical exertion to maneuver the equipment in place. This process could equally take place on uneven ground and surfaces that are ingrained with oil. Compressed air pipework involves the installation of galvanized steel pipes in size ranges from 1/2” BSP to 4” BSP. Such systems are generally position at height requiring the operator to have good physical strength, agility and the ability to work on ladders, scaffold towers, and other equipment. Tools associated with compressed air work can be large, unwieldy and require a deal of physical strength to suit
