HNC in Manufacturing Engineering (Pearson)

The Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC Manufacturing Engineering course provides you with a specialist work-related programme of learning that covers all the key knowledge, understanding, and practical skills required to work and progress in roles within manufacturing engineering, such as a manufacturing technician, engineering technician, technician (production), manufacturing engineering technician, integration and test technician or assistant project manager. If you are interested in a career in manufacturing engineering, are looking to progress further in your engineering career, and/or want to progress onto an HND, this is the ideal course for you.

Class sizes will be small and up to 14 learners to provide a more focused learning environment allowing team interaction and a unique opportunity to encourage experience sharing, knowledge exchange and skill building. The combination of small class sizes and our structured approach has contributed to a 100% pass rate since the initiation of the HNC programme with over 80% of students attaining higher grades supporting career progression in the workplace or further study.

Once completed, you will be awarded a Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Manufacturing Engineering.

The course offers students a broad introduction to the subject area via a mandatory core of learning and specialist /optional units.

The mandatory units covered are:

• Unit 4001: Engineering Design

• Unit 4002: Engineering Mathematics

• Unit 4003: Engineering Science

• Unit 4004: Managing a Professional Engineering Project

• Unit 4014 Production engineering for manufacturing.

• Unit 4017 Quality and process improvement.

• Unit 4007 Machining and Processing of Engineering Material.

• Unit 4008 Mechanical Principles.

Brief Description	Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications in Engineering offer: A stimulating and challenging programme of study that will be both engaging and memorable for students. The essential subject knowledge that students need to progress successfully within the world of work or onto further study. A focused introduction to latest advancements in engineering. A wide range of scientific and engineering knowledge linked to practical skills obtained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Vocational activities that help students to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills. A varied approach to assessment that supports progression to higher levels and also allows centres to offer assessments relevant to employers and the local economy, thereby accommodating and enhancing different learning styles. The Level 4 HNC qualification is designed to meet the needs of employers encompassing one to two Level 5 units Upon the success of completion of the HNC course, the HND course can be completed in one year (provided the appropriate Level 4 HNC units have been achieved. Day release required Teaching, learning, and assessment will be based at Rochdale Training.
Level 4 HNC Manufacturing & Level 5 HND Manufacturing	The Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Manufacturing Engineering offers students a broad introduction to the subject area via a mandatory core of learning and specialist /optional units. The HNC programme (L4 – HTQ 2024 specifications) is a 2-year course made up of 135 credits (60 L4 credits in Year 1, 60 L4 credits + 15 L5 credits in Year 2). The completion of the HNC allows natural progression to our ONE-year HND programme (L5 – HTQ 2024 specifications), 105 credits to be completed in one year. The units covered are: Unit 4001: Engineering Design Unit 4002: Engineering Mathematics Unit 4003: Engineering Science Unit 4004: Managing a Professional Engineering Project Unit 4014 Production engineering for manufacturing. Unit 4017 Quality and process improvement. Unit 4007 Machining and Processing of Engineering Material. Unit 4008 Mechanical Principles. The above (HNC – Level 4 units must be completed) plus the following: Unit 5006 Further Engineering Mathematics Unit 5018 Sustainability Unit 5002 Professional Engineering Management Unit 5001 Research Project Unit 5015 Manufacturing Systems Engineering. Unit 5016 Lean Manufacturing Unit 5017 Advanced Manufacturing
Entry Requirements	For students who have recently been in education, the entry profile is likely to include one of the following: A high level of Maths/Science is strongly recommended A BTEC Level 3 qualification in Engineering / Level 3 Apprenticeship A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) Other related Level 3 qualifications An Access to Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education institution work experience An international equivalent of the above.
Duration	Two Years – Friday Day Release 8:30 am to 4:00 pm for HNC One Year – Thursday Day Release 8:30 am to 4:00 pm for HND (providing the above criteria has been met)
