The aim of this course is to provide a level of competence in the inspection of Power Presses and in safe working practice in relation to Power Press setting as demanded by the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).

Course Content
Participants will cover:
- Basic requirements of the legislation associated with setting and operation of power presses
- Causes of accidents with power presses and losses incurred
- Basic operating mechanisms of power presses with particular reference to clutch systems, braking systems, principal components & their inter-relationships
- Methods of operating power presses with particular reference to techniques for loading materials to the tools
- Key features of press guarding systems referring to: fixed, interlocking gate (electrical, mechanical), automatic and photoelectric guards
- Understanding the concept of the closed tool
- Describe principles and demonstrate competence in safety inspection of power presses
- Describe principles relating to thorough examination and interpret reports
- Demonstrate competence in the safe setting of power presses and related adjustment
